Honestly, your best bet to determine that, is to decide where you want to work, and look up the area on monster.com, or dice.com or a similar job board.  Go search "Network Engineer" for Las Vegas, Nevada, for instance.  (notice that difference will be much different in smaller cities).  Its also good to see what kind of employers you might like working for, and what kind of knowledge and certifications they require.  Some areas have extreme demand, and the pay is very high.  In my town, there is not as much demand, only a small number of employers are big enough to need them in this town, so wages are lower
