Dr Pepper is a soft-drink from the US.  

It was launched in Australia 15 years ago or so, but never sold well.  The Coles grocery manager I worked with stopped ordering in several years ago and there were never complaints about lack of availability: nobody seemed to want it.

Try to ignore the cultural insensitivity of some of the other answers.

When the Americans who are answering your question use the word "soda" they are referring to what we call "soft drink" here in Australia.

The reason you have not seen it locally is that it was a failure here in Australia when it was released in the late 80s or early 90s. (This was around the same time that a lot of other varieties of soft drink were also introduced, and also failed - like Cherry Coke)

You can only buy it in Australia from companies that directly import it, like USA Foods

actually made from caramel and vegetables. but like a cola, fizzy drink, but with a different taste. if you've ever had cherry coke, its like that.

It is a soda that is like a cherry coke in flavor. The syrup is the only one that is bottled by either the coke or the pepsi company bottlers.

It is a cola like drink (fizzy), only it has many ingredients and actually has a certain amount of prune juice in it.  It can be quite different and refreshing on occasion. I would not say that it tastes like cherry cola, however.

It's a can that has been filled with the cold flavored water that is called Dr Pepper! And if you are real, you will drink it! Not like those Coke heads that think they are koooool NO Real like YOU and ME!

At first I thought this was a joke, then I found out that you are an Aussie - so...it's kind of like a Coke-Cola, but with a more unique flavor.  It's the same color as a Coke, fizzy like a Coke - only tastes a bit better in my opinion.  We keep them in our fridge at all times.  If you ever have an opportunity to try one, please do.  You'll probably like it.
