It is a tool used by windows to check for and repair errors on the harddrives. It usually starts automatically if a machine is shut down improperly or due to a power cut.

well chkdsk is the check disk utility from Microsoft Windows...

it will check your whole hard drive. for bad sectors , clusters , and free space , it depends upon which file system you are using...

it will also check for any bad file record or any bad record in your hard drive...

there are more options for chkdsk ..

just use following to know more for chkdsk..

go to cmd and type chkdsk /?

it will display some options for chkdsk and all
