  1. We have enough oil to last a lifetime in alaska alone, not to mention california and a bunch of other places in america. Unfortinately, the democrats don't want to "Hurt the environment" by drilling for oil in our home land. Right now most people don't give a c**p, but the democrats in power have all the money they need to keep up with gas prices and thats why they keep making us depend on imported oil from the middle east. Thats why the middle east is doing so well right now. Its funny though how when theyre oil runs out in a few years, they will have no source of income and will go bankrupt by not being able to keep up they're expensive life style, and forcing huge prices on us will come back to bite them in the face. Hopefully by then the democrats come to their senses, or they just leave office and we can get some republicans that know what theyre doing. If that happens, maybe we can start drilling our own oil and stop paying 4 dollars a gallon, until then, then democrats would rather pay than drill in alaska where like nobody lives (go figure, why does everyone want democrats in office again?)

  2. Oil speculators

  3. Oil is traded in US dollars. The USD has lost a lot of it's value over the last few months.  The best way to compensate this, is to raise prices.

  4. We continue to pay what they ask.

If all Americans simply refused to buy gasoline the price would drop through the floor within a week.

Remember, everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.

  5. Crude oil prices are ultimately determined by the companies in other countries that sell the crude oil. With that said, companies in the united states (Exxon, Sunoco etc. ) buy this crude oil and refine it into oil, grease, tar, gasoline, kerosene, and even use some of the by product to make plastics. Oil companies are charging use more for oil because it is becoming more sparse but also because America can afford to pay for it. America is the most dependent on oil, that is why we are taking such a big hit, but oil prices are affecting all countries.
