  1. Despite the names of the dolls, I want to add something more. The five dolls together is called Fuwa, which is the pronouciation of 福娃in Chinese.

Beibei is a fish, which represents the sea

Jingjing is a panda, which represents the forest

Huanhuan is the fire ,which represents the Olympic fire

Yingying is a Tibetan antelope , representing the vast land

Nini is a Kite with the shape of a swallow, representing the sky

The five dolls show Chinese people's best wishes to the Olympic: prosperity, happiness, passion, health and energy. The five dolls were designed in a way that can best reveal the megnificent culture in ancient China.

There are some other significances of Fuwa

1 they represents the five rings of Olympic. They also have the corresponding colours. They are from 5 different continents

2They represents the world outlook in ancient China. Chinese people used to believe that the world consists of 5 substances, metal, wood, water, fire and earth ,which are called the five elements

3 They represent 5 kinds of good fortunes: long life, richness, health, tolerance and death without pain. They are of great significance in China
