This bug was in my room. It is about 1.5-2in long. What is it? and should I be worried? The location is upstate New York.

um its not a cockaroch but my dad said its not going to kill you idk look at a bug book or something

That's a House Centipede.  They aren't poisonous, and they eat cockroaches.  So you can squish it if you want, but you might want it to stick around if you have other bug problems.

That is a centipede.  

It is harmless.  It runs down and catches other insects and eats them.  It isn't smart to hand them however as they are poisonous.  They won't hurt you though.  They like to run away.  If you catch one in a glass and a piece of paper against the wall you'll notice the two "fangs" it uses to kill its prey.

You are better off just tossing it outside as they are harmless to you and will be good at keeping the flies and other insects at bay.
