  1. Chichen Itza is the Mayan Ruins.  It is a historical site of the Mayan people.  It was actually voted one of the seven wonders of the world just this year.  It is a very interesting site to visit.....if you are ever in Cancun I suggest you visit this place.

  2. I'm posting a website that I really like. It describes it all very simply and it has some pictures. If you yahoo

Chichen Itza many site will come up and you will want to go and see for your self.)

  3. The Chichen Itza is basically this area where there are a whole ton of Mayan ruins left behind. The most famous is the pyramid. It is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, and for good reason. The pyramid is pretty big and has an amazing architectural design. There's actually a smaller pyramid inside of there. And its all aligned with the sun, or something really crazy/cool like that. So hearing the history and design of the pyramid is pretty awesome. If you go there and get a tour you can basically learn a whole lot. Unfortunatley, you can't climb it anymore since they want to preserve it. But besides that there's a whole lot of cool other ruins. The only one that you can actually climb is this one library or something, but its pretty good for posing. Also, I have to say that there was awesome shopping in Chichen Itza. There were tons of vendors and I got tons of great deals there. Practically all of my best gifts came form there. When I went there we went on one of those tours instead of doing it on our own. I don't know if this only comes with the tour, but it is by far my FAVORITE part of Cnacun. After we left the ruins we went to this place where this comet had hit the earth and made a huge gaping hole in the ground. Like huge. So basically the ginormous hole got filled up with freshwater from the lagoon. So it sort of looked like a sort of cave full of water at the bottom and a huge hole with sunlight shining through at the top. So it was basically..... SUPER GORGEOUS AND BEAUTIFUL. At the giant hole ceiling there was sort of lush forest greenery growing around it and vines hanging down hitting the water. The water was fresh water so it felt prety good and refreshing when it got into your mouth. And when you first go in the water is pretty cold but you get used to it and it becomes super cleansing sort of. There were little fishies swimming around but they were harmless. The water was super super deep and pitch black. So if your not a decent swimmer rent a life jacket there. But let me say, I have never been so peaceful in my life than being there floating on my back staring at the beautiful scenery. It is actually my current favorite place in the world. So anyways, they had to drag me out of there and we were the last ones on the bus. So I basically loved the place, and my other siblings had an awesome time. However my parents and little sister didn't like it. However, wear cool

clothes and BRING LOTS of water. One dude actually fainted of heat exhaustion. Its also a long ride there so bring some entertainment. So I totally recommend it but it might turn out different for you, you never know. Hope I helped!

  4. It is an ancient Mayan city whose ruins are world famous - partly because they are really beautiful and still in fairly good condition, and partly because it likely came to a violent end.  It has gotten a lot of press in the last few years as a place people should see before they die.  There is a step pyramid, etc.  You can read all about it (and see pictures) in the wikipedia article I'm posting in my sources.

  5. Chichen Itza is a Mayan City in the State of Yucatan, Mexico.

It recently became a lot better know when it was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World (or the Kukulcan Pyramid did anyway).

It is also very well known for the Summer & Winter solstice, which cause a shadow of a serpent on the North facing staircase.

I was there and took loads of photos on the day it was announced as one of the new 7 wonders, you can find the pictures at www.flickr.com and search for Chichen Itza or Kukulcan Pyramid.

Another site that will help to explain all to you is..

If you are planning to take a trip there, I would also recommend that you spend a night in the Mayaland Hotel, which is right next to the site. It just saves the 3 hour drive to get there from places like Cancun.

Merida is also Beautiful, and well worth a visit if you are in that part of the world, it's an hours drive from Chichen (give or take 20 minutes) but use the Toll Road.

You can pick up a day trip including lunch and transport for around $70.00 USD per person. Grayline do a good one too that has All Inclusive, so that you can use the Mayaland facilities too, if you wish.

    Hope this helps.
