I am a 16 turning 17 soon and I am looking for a job that pays a lot. It would also be nice if I got free stuff, but that might be a stretch. So anything that pays good.

  1. Grocery store chain jobs are ideal starter jobs. They will usually be open to flexing schedules for school. My daughter had her job at Albertson's almost all the way through college before she became a teacher. One of her friends started afterwards and he manages his own store now. This is a good job indeed and good benefits and good future for advancement if you decide to make a career.

Because these stores are often union, there are policies and procedures in place for how people are treated. There is no yelling or strange stuff that is a part of the restaurant/fast food world.

    Best wishes...

  2. Hon, I hate to bust your bubble, but "pays a lot" requires education and experience.

Education you know how to get - pay attention at school.

Experience you build up over time.  It will really serve you best if you figure out what you want to do when you get out of school and try for jobs that fit with your goals; build your resume.  Trust me - if you want to be a doctor, getting a job at a community clinic will be worth far more to you than dipping ice cream.

  3. Anything that pays well, not "good."  You have to ask yourself, what do you like to do?  Do you like the outdoors, meeting different people, be in a cubicle, etc.

Do you plan on going to college?  Maybe a part time job that correlates with your major.  Here are a few ideas, a hostess at a nice upscale restaurant.  A waitress (tips). You can do retail, say Macy's working at the MAC counter? An administrative assistant for a large company. A receptionist.  There are tons.

You also mentioned money-- what's a lot of money to you?  You can't expect to land a job and start making millions--you have to work your way up.

    Good luck.

  4. Trying to earn a lot at 16-17 is tough because you don't have a diploma yet (I presume) and you don't have much experience in, well, anything. Whatever you do, you won't start with high pay, so you'll have to work hard at it to earn what you deserve. Sometimes being in sales can get you commission on what you sell. My friend works at Macy's and gets a nice check every month for selling tons of clothes to girls (and for looking really good in Macy's clothes, too). That's in addition to her paycheck.

edit: She also gets an awesome discount on clothes, but beware, not all stores can do that for you. Find a store and maybe ask a friendly-looking employee how they feel about working there and ask someone who won't sugar-coat it. You wanna know what you'd get out of it.
