I'VE LIVED WITH MY MOM ALL MY LIFE AND NOW I AM 23 YRS OLD. I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY RENT AND HALF OF THE UTILITIES SINCE I TURNED 18 AND I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM DOING SO. THING IS MY MOM IS VERY SPITEFUL AND WHEN SHE'S MAD AT ME SHE DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO HAVE COMPANY. I WAS WONDERING IF I HAVE ANY LEGAL RIGHTS SINCE I PAY RENT AND HALF OF THE UTILITIES. WE GO BY A MONTH TO MONTH LEASE THAT MY MOM CLAIMS IM ON BUT I DONT KNOW FOR SURE, EVERYTIME I ASK TO SEE SHE SAYS ITS NONE OF MY BUSINESS. I CANT GO TO MY LANDLORD BECAUSE WE DONT HAVE ONE ANYMORE, OUR BUILDING WAS PUT IN SOME SORT OF HOUSING PROGRAM WHERE THE TENANTS NOW OWN THEIR APARTMENTS. WHAT CAN I DO?

  1. Well my dear your mom can do anything she likes. I had my daughter live with me and she had lots of money and she would not even help pay for anything and we were having hard times..she had some friends over when i had asked her not to..and what happen was she melted one of my things and didn't say anything. I didn't find it until a week later hidden in the freezer. What you need to do is find a place of your own now as you can have your own control how you like your place and who you can have over. As long as you stay there she has the right even if you pay. The place his in her name only and if your name was on the title then you would have say..so it is time for you to move out and live on your own. If it is to costly..find a friend to rent with but set down the rule you both want to see and sign a paper so it stays..so as long as you live with her..you will never be happy. I never made my daughter life bad..she made it bad for me..so it's time you move out and then you will be a much happier person..

  2. You can move out and find someone else to share the rent and utilities with.  I highly doubt that you are on the lease.  For one thing she owns the apartment, so, unless you signed a lease with her, there isn't one.  So, as long as she owns the house, she can pretty much enforce any rules she wants.  You just need to get out of there.  Get a roommate if you can't afford rent alone.
