  1. its about the specific heat capacity of water and land. water has a much higher SHC(specific heat capacity) than land. this means that during the day, the land will heat up (or cool down) a lot faster getting warmer than the sea. and during the night the land will also lose heat a lot faster getting cooler than the sea. during the winter the sea remains warmer than the land because of its higher SHC. when wind blows over the sea to the land the sea warms the wind relative to the land. this blows over the land thereby modifying its temperature. in summer, the sea remains cooler than the land and the reverse effect is produced.


  2. The sun warms the ocean in the summer and because of the heat capacity of water the ocean retains the heat and releases it slowly throughout the winter, warming the adjacent land.  In the winter the ocean cools down and stays cooler than the land through the summer.  When breezes come off the water in summer they are cooled by the ocean.
