WHAT WAS THE COLD WAR? ?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME TO HAVE A BETTER UNDER STANDING ON THE COLD WAR... I HAVE BEEN READING AND READING ... AND STILL I DONT THINK I HAVE THAT GREAT OF AN UNDERSTANDING?

Well, it is the opposite of a hot war. In a hot war, the armies of 2 or more nations clash, that is they shoot at one another, you know, they kill one another. But in a cold war, just the opposite happens. There are no armies killing one another over some piece of land or water, although, they do kill, it is on a different basses then open warfare.

I hope that this did not muddy the waters to much.

I was a Military Police Officer in the Army from 1984 to 1987. When I was stationed in what was known as West Germany at the time, it was my mission to guard the Fulda Gap in the mountain range located between East and West Germany. We lived with the constant threat of Communists coming through that area and invading West Germany. The wall was still up at the time and carefully guarded by many communist soldiers. The USSR was a very determined foe for the United States and the free world. Their belief was strictly for a dictatorship rule. Because they were so militarily strong, we were at a constant standoff with them awaiting the threat of nuclear holocaust. I went to high school aware of this threat and took classes on Communism verses Americanism. I realized how fortunate I was to be an American. When my time was up in the Army, I received a Cold War Medal that honored my diligence in working to keep America free and enduring the constant fear of a nuclear war with a strong and terrifying Communistic nation or being invaded and then taken over by a Dictatorship rule. Watch the movie Red Dawn. This will give you an idea of how horrible life would be if that ever happened.
