Singapore is trying to be someone outstanding in the Map of Asia, if not the World. What are the chances open to her, the country?

b) Once Miss Universe Contest Location

c) Meet place for China & Taiwan

d) Held IMF & World Bank Conference in Asia

e) A FIRST in Airport & Airline (SIA)

f) First & Only Country to fly A380

g) A historic Trading Hub in SE Asia

h) Experiment centre for ERP Transport System/only country

Now, the coming 1st Youth Olympic in 2010

Singapore is working hard in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) & events industry. Being allowed to host the Youth Olympics is a great achievement that will serve to attract more such prestigious events in the future.

You notice the trend, here.   We are providing "services" to the world, in line with the Government's push to "excel in services".   Aside from the ERP thing, which makes money for the Government, you would notice, that the Government does not "provide services" for its own citizens, in terms, of addressing costs of living, freedom of expression, fair elections (in which the electoral boundaries do not change as often as the colours in a kaleidoscope).  We are all "servants" in providing these services.

What good is all these, Singapore getting international recognition? Chances are these will be used to justify the "outstanding" performance of the ministers to raise their pay further, while at the same time, they are telling ordinary Singaporeans, that rise in costs of living is inevitable, and it is not wise to increase the pay of "working class Singaporeans"?

You can keep your international events and enjoy tracking them, and feel all proud of the "Red and White" see all the stars you want, while I work to make sure I do not starve.
