I have a little tike's race car bed I want to repaint the bed another color and someone told me that if I painted the car bed I would ruin the bed.Is this true? How would it be ruined? I have seen polyurethane spray paint in stores for plastic items. The spray can even states not recommended for Little Tike's toys. Why? What would happen to the race car bed? Please help me with this problem. I think a professional painter or someone in this field might know the answer. Thanks......

  1. the problem with painting over something that is plastic or with that smooth of a surface is that the paint that you apply will never hold up as long as the origional. when your friend told you that you would be ruining it, he may have meant in the sense that once you put paint on it, and you get a nic or scratch, you will have to be able to touch it up over and over again.

what i would do is look into a epoxy based paint. the kind that they use for painting bathtub installs and tile with. sherwin williams has new products for just that.

your other best bet is to spray prime the bed with pro block and then spray it with several light coats of latex krylon. make sure that you light scuff sand the bed and wipe all of the dust and oils from it before you paint it. other wise you may get little pock hole and streaks in the paint job.

the lighter and more coats, the better.

    good luck !
