indiscretion..whether it'd be "adultery" or "falling in love, wanting to marry a man outside her faith"?

And Why does the man escape such punishment??

To me, there seems to be this GREAT, obscene, prejudicial bias in punishing HARSHLY only ONE of the parties involved!!

Does it come down to mean that women are considered lesser beings in certain patriarchal cultures, or is it something far more disrespectful and sinister, to which "men" have the right to attend to - in order to savagely correct, in a way most

CRUDELY unfair??

Such women who submit to such barbarism in our "supposedly" modern world..have they no sense of what they do not deserve going through?

Sorry would be the male, or family, even mine, who would sacrifice me, for some ancient thinking, which denied women of their rights..and would make such abusive to the MAX, men, decide such a brutal judgement ONLY for me, and not for themselves.

Why, I'd fight alike a veritable Cuban Caiman, were it attempted to be caught!!!

  1. There are both reasons behind these actions. 1) The men believe they are the authority and that they are responsible for punishing women. It is a way of subjegating and demoralizing women, so that men can have supreme control.

Notice that it is present in Western cultures to some extent as well. Men can feel free to abuse women who do not shave their legs, vaginas etc. Even if a woman has hands or stature that is large she is demeaned. By wanting women to stay in this very restrictive and limited role that is defined by men it is also a way men assert control over women. Notice how hurtful it is to call a woman a prostitue in our society, but men are given a free pass, or admired, for their infideletiy. It is not only backward thinking countries that behave this way.

    2) women in most cultures are thought of as not equal to men. These stats have probably changed, but 15 years ago women did 3/4 of the worlds hardest labor and owned 1% of the land. Meaning land owning men were having women work the crops etc. It is similar in the west, there is no western nation that I know of that pays men and women the same salary for exactly the same work. Also, what is worthy of mention is that women are porportionally less represented in All levels of management.

Now, your comment that women who live in these cultures are responsible for sustaining this patriarchial supremecy should be questioned. Women who do not fit in to these strict cultual limitation or question them, or buck them are severly punished even killed. The best kind of change is change in the establishment, and thankfully there are women in every nation that work for this.

  2. One reason:

" What the men of the family, clan, or tribe seek control of in a patrilineal society is reproductive power. Women for the tribe were considered a factory for making men."

Also--women do NOT SUBMIT TO THIS. Oftentimes their family members kill them--people they trust--so they are lured into an area where they cannot escape, or they are attacked.
