OK I SIGNED UP FOR THE MARINES THURSDAY AND I PASSED MY PHYSICAL AND ALL.... I JOINED RESERVES FOR 6 YRS AND 2 YRS ACTIVE... I WANTED RESERVES ALONE... BUT AFTER DOING ALL THAT PAPERWORK WAS WHEN I SAW ACTIVE FOR 2 YRS... 8 YRS TOTAL... I UNDERSTAND A RESERVE ILL BE HOME PRETTY MUCH ALL DAY AND HEAD OVER THE 2 DAYS A WEEK TO TRAIN WHICH IS LIKE 20 MIN AWAY FROM MY HOUSE... BUT FOR A CTIVE MY RECRUITER SAYS I WILL ONLY BE SHIPPED OUT OVERSEAS OR SOMETHING IF THERES A DRAFT ? IS THAT TRUE ? OR IS IT BS ? ... I WILL NOT LEAVE MY FAMILY JUST FOR THE MARINES ... I START BOOTCAMP IN JAN... AND BEING OVERSEAS IS NOT AN OPTION WHEN IM ACTIVE... MY DAD IS VERY SICK AND RETIRED ALREADY... I AM THE ONLY SON AND HAVE 2 SISTERS... IS MY RECRUITER LYING TO ME SAYING I WONT BE SHIPPED OUT UNLESS THERES A DRAFT WHEN IM THE 2 YRS ACTIVE MARINE ? .... HE ALSO SAYS I DONT HAVE TO WEAR UNIFORM OR ANYTHING EXCEPT WHEN I CHECK IN WITH HIM ONCE A WEEK ? IS THAT TRUE ? I NEED TO KNOW ASAP ITS STRESSING ME OUT SO MUCH THANKS FOR ANY ANSWERS!

  1. You might want to pay attention to what you sign up for.And you might want to ask these questions before you sign any papers..

I have never heard of a 6 year reserve contract with 2 years active after your 6 reserve years.

I believe you are just lost in more ways then one. The reserve contract is as follows..

    6 years reserve duty

    2 years in-active reserve

    total 8 years service

While in the in-active reserves you dont do anything. It is as if your not even in the USMC. If some huge war erupted then you would be called back to reserve status.In-active reserve Marines do no deploy..so your recruiter is telling you the truth.

But while in the reserves I would say you will get activated at least once and you will deploy.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me..

  2. Most Reserve contracts are 6 yrs Drill Reserves and two yrs inactive. As reservist you will drill (train) anywhere from a weekend a month (2 days.) To 4 days a month (Thurs.-Sun.) depending on the training schedule of that month. In addition to that, you will have Annual Training in which you will be on active duty for around 2-3wks per year. As a reservist, there are chances of being deployed as well but a lot of times, you will have time to go to school and/or work in a civilian job full time without much conflict. You may get deployed and you might not, I knew a Cpl who was in the reserves for 6 yrs (recently got out) and did not even deploy at all. It's difficult to tell the future but when you join, be ready to deploy once you're with your unit. Once your deployment is done you will become a reservist once more and carry on with your school and civilian life outside of drill.

  3. Joining the Marine Reserves or Army Reserves is like joining Active Duty.  You'll be activated once you're done with your technical training school.  So you'll be in boot camp for 3 months, then in training for a few more months, then sent to war.  FYI, all Army and Marine recruiters lie because they need people so bad.  Why do you think they have referral bonuses?  You'll be at war for 1 - 1 1/2 years, come back in the states for 6 months then send you back for another 1 - 1 1/2 years.

A friend of mine joined the Marines Reserves and has been shipped out twice.  Each tour was 1 year long.  Good luck in the Marines, you'll really miss home.

I suggest you join the Air National Guard (Air Force).

  4. depend on where you get stationed at and what your job is, the Marine Corps is not bad.  Soon you'll see that maybe you should've just went to school.  Being in the Marine Corps isn't hard its very fun, the deployments, new people, different location.  I get out in 8 months and I would do it over if I went back 3 years in my life.  Though I can't wait to EAS, I am happy I did serve.  You go through some BULLSH*T but that happens in life no matter what you do.  Just believe me you'll have fun and you will enjoy it.  Its not for everyone but make sure you do your time honorably.  Weather you stay in or get out have fun.

Oh yeah you will be deployed no matter if you are reserved or active...

  5. You will be able to be real boastful in bars and on yahoo answers as to how tough you are and what being a special froces soldier is like, then when you go to Afganistan instead of returning fire you will rely on superior airpower to do your dirty work then when the airstrike is over you will film your mates shooting off a few rounds then make it look like you took over a taliban position with your bare hands.
