  2. I am not sure what you mean by a ''common noun."  There was no such thing when I studied grammar.  However, the nouns are:

    FARMER and FIELDS.

"The" is an article.  "His" is a adjective modifying fields, the noun.  The grammatical expression is:   farmer (noun), plowed (verb) fields (direct object).  The article "the" gives very little modification to "farmer," but the adjective  "his" explains whose fields were plowed.

  3. farmer, fields

Nouns are people, places and things.  Common nouns are nouns that don't need to be capitalized.  'The' is an article and "his" is an adjective.

    Hope this helps!
