I would say just buy Norton security. It's most definitely worth the money. i used to have free stuff on my computer and it plagued me with annoying popups like every 30 seconds.

You can try Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG Anti-spyware, SpywareBlaster (more of a preventative measure than remover) and Hijackthis to remove infections rooted in Windows registry.

You should be able to download these at either www.download.com or www.majorgeeks.com.

SpywareBlaster you can get at www.javacoolsoftware.com.

Ad-Aware, Spybot and AVG will do most of the work for you, just follow the onscreen instructions.

Go to ZDnet and look for Spybot and Ad-aware.  These both are free and work well.

I recommend AVG Antispyware and go ahead and get the antivirus and firewall. They work great. All of them. AVG has many other tools to help with your PC.
