My favorite San Francisco restaurant is Zan Kazam, in the Haight Ashbury part of town. It's entertaining for several reasons. You get to hang out in the Haight before you eat, which is historic, and entertaining, even if you're not a hippie. Then, you go inside and it is a fun atmosphere, with low tables and pillows to sit on. There are belly dancers, music, and the famous HOOKA pipes. It is fun to have a drink and watch the people smoking the hookas.  I have not been in a few years, but when I went, I had really great food. Hummus, pitas, and great Moussaka. They have a veggie and a meat version - the veggie Moussaka was amazing.

Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant near Union Square! Moroccan food is wonderful, the place is dimly lit with lanterns, you sit on cushions on the floor and eat with your hands, listen to Arabic dance music, and they have a belly dancer shakin her stuff on weekends. It's really a fun time!

P.S. don't be in a hurry, though. The full "experience" will take about 2 hours.

P.S. for the women reading this: most of the waiters are pretty hot!

Ok first off lets address a couple of the other answers:

Candylover - Life is too short to eat in Chain restaurants, especially in San Francisco, the restaurant/gourmet capital of the world.

Mamacita - sadly Julie's Supper Club is closed.

For something completely different try AsiaSF - Howard at 9th -good chinese/thai/fusion food served in a cool club room with regular performances by gender illusionist.  No chowmein but lots of hot peppers!

Theatro Zinanni - Dinner Theatre in a tent on the Embaracdero.  Not cheap but definately fun!

Farallon - Post at Powell- Expensive but great food served in an amazing room like eating dinner in underwater garden

Rainforest cafe its for kids and adults, Bubba Gumps and Wipeout they are all my favorite resturants and they are all in San Francisco

I think it depends on what you mean by "entertaining".
