i AM CONSIDERING DOING A COURSE WHICH WILL ALLOW ME TO TEACH IN THE UAE, i AM IN THE uK LIVING IN LEICESTER COULD ANYONE ADVISE ME WHICH IS THE BEST COURSE TO DO AND IF YOU CAN DO THEM VIA DISTANT LEARNING! MANY THANKS

  1. Firtly TESOL and TEFL refer to the same subject - Teaching English as a Foreign Language (To Speakers of Other Languages).

    As there is no regulatory body for the provision or quality of EFL courses, then you could get all kinds of information regarding which is the best.

    For example, if you wish to teach with the British Council, they have a tendency to accept Trinity College or Cambridge certificates. The reason for this is not clear except that they require at minimum of 6 hours teaching practice, and 120 hours of study.

    Having said this many overseas British Council schools will employ you initially on a part time basis with alternative qualifications, and thereby allow you to build up your teaching experience.

    Trinity and CELTA courses are both good courses, however can be a bit expensive. If you are looking for a good alternative distance learning course and keep your costs down, you could try London Teacher Training College.
