i suggest the ps3 because it is new so more people will have it and so u can talk about it with ur friends. wii is a little for younger kids and family fun.

ps3. the ps3 is just an overall better system. it excels in everything. the graphics aren't even comparable. the ps3 has a bigger harddrive. it's processor is much better which means, more realistic gaming, tougher AI, and more detail to your games. the ps3 can play blu-ray movies while the wii can't even play standard dvd's. the ps3 can also play your music as well as your pictures. it has great online which is free by the way. the wii's online is terrible. now unlike the ps3, the wii relies on the game entirely for the online play. the ps3 however has an online community. you can get demos, add ons, etc. from the playstation store and play great online with your friends.

the ps3 also has great games. here are a few that are out or will be out for the ps3.

maybe this will help:

  ps3 :   pros:grafics, good games, a lot of games.                           Cons:heavy,expensive, uses gigs

   WII:   pros: inexpensive, you can make miis, you can send messages to friends, you can download from cell phones, games cost less, very portable. Cons: not as many games

The Wii is probably better for newcomers to games, children and parents, but the PS 3 has a better hard drive, for deeper games (better graphics, gaming and other whatnot, even though it's games aren't motion controlled)

Wii is still fun, since it is awesome and Nintendo related.

The Playstation 3 is better for hardcore gamers, but if you like playing with family/friends the Wii is your best bet.
