The Sony is better because the image stabilization is built into the camera whereas on the Canon's it's built into the lens. I was looking at a 300mm lens for the the Sony it was $199-229 the Canon lens was $629-649 and the non-image stabilized lens was $199. I think the Sony also has better batter life and has the features of a $700 Canon. Also look the the Sony A300K which is about $100 more but us features live view and a 2x digital zoom which doubles the power of the lens without losing quality. The live view feature in the Canon's and Nikons don't start until the $1100 range.

Both of these cameras are virtually identical in features.. They are also both made by well-respected brand names. I have used both of these cameras and have gone completely to Sony.

What I found was that the Sony gave me a better out of the camera picture quality. For me that has allowed me the capture great images with less post processing. Something you will be doing a good bit of no matter what DSLR you choose.

The other thing I like about Sony is greater Dynamic Range. It’s ability to capture well-balanced images in mixed light situations. You’re taking a picture of someone and there is shade and bright light. The Sony balanced out the highs and lows much better.
