  1. It means the comparison with Walks and Hits compared to how many innings pitched (only concerns a pitcher). It factors into the official statistics book, and the lower your whip is, the better of a pitcher you will be recognized as, although ERA, Wins, and K's will probably help you more

  2. Walk and Hits per inning pitch.

If someone allows 1 hit and 1 walk in one inning, his WHIP would be 2.00

  3. It stands for Walks + Hits per Innings Pitched, the Lower the WHIP the better.

  4. WHIP = Walks + Hits per inning pitched

  5. Walk+Hit / Innings Pitched

WHIP 1.00 or lower = Stellar (rarely base runners) Rivera's WHIP 0.70

    1.01- 1.25 = Great (Allows few base runners) Lincecum's WHIP 1.18

1.25-1.50= Average (Allows a reasonable amount of base runners) Verlander's WHIP 1.35

1.50+ = Horrid (allows many base runners) Zito's WHIP 1.68

  6. Walk and Hits per inning pitch.
