(there are also different STATE min wages too, but these are the FEDERAL GUIDELINES)

There are also CITY ordinances within states that dictate even higher wages.

The only thing the federal wage does is provide a minimum.  Almost have the states in the country have opted to raise their minimum above that level.  

So, it WOULD depend on exactly where they live as I said.  For instance, Marylands minimum wage is higher then the federal, but certain jobs in Baltimore pay even higher then that for the minimum wage.
