1. Umm... last time I checked Rickson is still quite alive and kicking Paula Filho's butt all around the mat...

Also Royce is no where near the best Gracie even... much less the best MMA fighter... and he hasn't been relevant in like 10 years...

I'm with Katana as it really depends on ruleset, which arts you consider fighting arts...

For example fencing is a fighting art, a boxer against a fencer with swords would get killed in a heart beat.

A world champ in Kendo would own anyone without a sword...

So it is totally just guesswork and personal opinion...

    Honestly I have no idea...

But I would still lean towards Fedor... lol.

    Edit: Bobby:

I realize that you are directing your things at Katana, but I will answer for him. Actually Rickson, Helio, Kimura, Santana, and a wide array of other people did the very same thing in public bouts with a more impressive record than Royce.

Also Lethal Elbows in the face? That is part of a Martial Arts set too... Winning with elbows works pretty good for Muay Thai practioners...

Rickson was in far more No Holds Barred matches than Royce, he was chosen because he was one of the smallest and it was thought that he would be a greater example of the worth of Gracie Juijitsu because of his size and lack of athleticism.

In fact there were a great many Gracie Jiujitsu practioners that had far more impressive records in No Holds Barred matches in Vale Tudo in Brazil and Japan, as well as Shootfight in Japan. Marco Ruas for example... Rickson being a very notable one..

    So seriously, educate yoursefl.

  2. go on you tube and look up midgets fightin theres ur answer the springer one

  3. Hey Bobby... Rickson Gracie is not dead. The greatest fighter in the world is some monk in central Asia

  4. no one knows

  5. Obviously Bruce Lee. Even Chuck Norris acknowledges that he was the greatest martial artist of all time.

  6. Probably one of those monks in Asia that have been training since they were 2, but that people know of is probably Bruce Lee, it would be great if he was around for the UFC, I would love to see him fight one of the BJJ guys.

  7. THE GREATEST FIGHTER IS.............

  8. Mr Bruce LEE, the one and only. He will stand up to all and not back out. In a ring or in the street. I think he will do well in the UFC, if he is in his 20s and still alive.

  9. Bruce Lee

  10. With respect to Bobby's BJJ Agenda, which is wrong, considering that Matt Hughes beat Royce Gracie in a pay per view (reality sucks doesn't it bobby?), I don't really think that he can be considered the greatest. here is his fight record in the UFC:

    hardly the greatest.

The fact is that your question has no answers, as there are too many variables.

    1) Who's rules is the fight under.

    2) Is it for a trophy or life and death.

There are plenty of good fighters out there who just do not wish to fight in public forums. Your question is opinion only, as there is no real way to prove who is.

Probably the best would be anyone who dedicated themselves to Judomofo's Chi Enhancement System.

Edit for Bobby J - here is one just off the top of my head. i would say surviving duels and battles against katana's qualifies as no holds barred, and is more impressive then what royce did, and yes there were rules, just not as many.

Royce was good but remember all of his opponents were hand picked. You are also talking about in a ring, when teh question says "fighting arts". Put Royce and me in a fight with Sai's and guess whos gonna win? It is all about who's rules you fight under, and in what context you are talking about.

  12. Rickson Gracie (who has retired)

but the greatest living fighter is Royce Gracie.

Royce Gracie is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu master.
Royce was 40 years old when he faught Matt Hughes.

when i say best fighter i mean best fighter who has been recorded fighting in a real event. Royce won all those fights back when there were no rules, no time limits.

Royce Gracie is the best fighter on TV. unlike all the other MMA fighters out there Royce won without throwing lethal elbows to the face. he was the only one who actually use his martial art.

tell me "katana" of any fighting event where one man has accomplished more than Royce Gracie has done.

sure you could say there is no such thing as the greatest fighter but ive never seen anyone do anything greater than what Royce Gracie did in those no rules events.

  16. GSP

  17. I agree with Katana17.

One of the greatest WARRIORS (not fighters) was Miyamoto Musashi. That was back when victory meant life, and defeat often meant death.

He killed over sixty men in duels by the time he was 29. That is a type of skill that can only be found on the battlefield, it does not exist in any ring.

True skill is only achieved when death becomes a reality. A fighter vying for a title and glory will never understand this type of skill. Musashi sought to master his art. Not just Kenjutsu, but painting, craftsmanship and architecture. He knew that they had an underlying principal-dedication and relentless pursuit of perfection that is never attained.
