  1. For the Men I think it will be either  Djokovic or Federer.  I know Nadal is having an awesome season but hardcourt is not his thing and he wears down later in the year he has to prove it to me.

For the Women its easy either one of the Williams sisters or Dinara Safina.  Oh and another thing Sharapova is out of the tournament with a shoulder injury, she dropped out of the Open about 2 weeks ago.

  2. federer

  3. for the men it will more then likely be Novak Djovick or rafeal Nadal.. why Novak Djovick.. because hard court is his absolute best place to play, he is very amped for it, has the best strokes on that surface and is playing with alot of consistency and is in good form..

the downside of Djovick, being a little too cocky and underestimating the other player.. or perhaps trying to finish of the points too quick and making too many errors

Nadal could also possibly win because he is very consistent this season, is full of confidence and is adapting his style more and more to the hardcourt.. but, there is a chance mental and physical fatigue could set in.... he has already over performed this season... and he could also run into a very hard dialed hardcourt opponent who will know how to beat him..

Outside of these 2 greats.. it will be a surprise winner if they fail to win.. and no i do not think federer is going to win..

For the women, well in therory it would be justice for one of the willam sisters to win the US OPEN.. they have not won a singles title there since 2001- 2002.. so they are due!  but,

i am leaning more towards some new and improved talent, dinara safina has built up her fitness and mental will to win, she has a good run to take the title..  she can pull it off, she knows how to play under pressure...

Elene demeteva could also have a good run there, she won the gold medal, and did reach the quaters and semi's at wimbledon that is a good accomplishment for her, she has the consistent strokes and determination that can challenge many big players... as long as she does not wilt, or let her serve sabotage her game..

  4. federer, safina.

  5. Men (Rafael Nadal, Del Potro, Federer, DJokovic--in that order)

Women (Ivanovic, V. Williams, S. Williams, Jankovic--in that order)

  6. Men

    - Likely Novak Djokovic and followed by Nadal and Federer

-- Novak is the king of hard court.. Nadal very consistent recently ..  Federer reigning US Open Champion :)

    Women

    - Serena & Venus , Safina

-- Serena she want revenge ( last year champ ) , Venus very strong and powerful.. Safina -- she's on top of her game right now..

  7. Men:  I think it be between Djokovic and Federer.  I think losing the #1 ranking and then seeing is passion winner gold in the mens DOUBLES has re-ignited Federer's passion for the game.  I think he will make it deep into the Tourney.  Djokovic is really due a break out win,  (I know Australia, but that is the least of the majors) so I think he has an outside chance.  Obviously Nadal is playing out of his mind, I have questions about his ability to stay healthly with such a long tennis season, and the fact that he is going deep in so many tourneys now.

Women:  Even though she isn't ranked in the 3. I think this is Dinara Safina's tournement to lose. She has been in the finals 7 of the last 8 tournements she has played in winning three of them.  She has the most momentum going into the open and the courts suit her style of play very well.  Sharapova always makes a strong showing at the open and she has more heart than anyone if she wants it.  Look for the William sisters to make it to the quarters, but they have played to much tennis and are not training hard enough to stay healthy, injury will cause them to lose.  Either Ivanovic and Jankovic will face Safina in the final.

  8. The main contenders for the mens singles title this year in my opinion are:

Rafa - Do I REALLY need to explain? Its pretty obvious! He's the world number one, he's super confident right now, he just won the French, Wimbledon and Olympic gold and his hard court game's is amazing!

Djokovic - He has always been one of the BEST hard court players I'v ever seen. He came so close last year, and he's playing even better than he was so he's got a GREAT chance!

Federer - Yes I STILL think he has a good chance! There are many reasons. Winning the doubles gold probably gave him the confidence boost he needed, and he would HATE to lose any more points at this stage. He really needs to hold onto his ranking. Its already dropped! He'll try his best to defend his title.

As for the women, I'd choose:

Safina - She's AMAZING! She's played really really well all year round and I think this COULD be her first Grand Slam win.

Ivanovic - She's the world number one, and she won the French this year. I think she'll do well here!

The William sisters - Sadly only one of them can proceed after the quarter finals, but I know whoever goes through will have a great chance of winning! With the doubles gold under their belt and the Wimbledon final spots, these two sisters will definitely give the other girls tough competition.

WOW we'r in for one GREAT US Open!!

  9. Men-I think it will b btw RAFAL NADAL(bcoz he is in best form of his carrier) OR it can also b NOVAK DJOKOVIC*(bcoz he plays well in hard court)

Women-SERENA WILLIAMS*(she is fit,in good form, hungry 2 win & most deserving 1)OR VENUS WILLIAMS also has a chance(bcoz she will definitely like 2 carry on her Wimbledon victory).

  10. for me i can say in men's division that will be nadal for me and for the womens division maybe that will be one of the williams sister.

as for nadal because he won straight 2 grand slams and for williams sister its because they are really strong and very skillful in terms of tennis but if maria doenst have an injury i might pick her as a top competitor at US Open.
