WHY ARE THERE PROFESSIONAL SPORTSMEN IN THE OLYMPICS?

Basketball players,soccer players and tennis,all with their own circuits

Because once upon a time in the spirit of sportsman  fair minded countries such as the US only sent their genuinely amateur athletes to compete in the Olympics

The problem was that the Soviet bloc countries had a very different interpretation of who and who was not an amateur athlete

The end result was that in a lot of cases  in was boys against men in the competition

The reason that the Miracle on Ice was such a big deal is that a bunch of American college kids beat a well seasoned professional Russian team

So what then happened was somebody stupidly thought that "If you can't beat them then you might as well join them" passed  new rules allowing that to happen and in doing so they took all of the joy out of the Olympics.

Could you imagine watching amateur footballers, basketball players and tennis player?

It would be boring.

The only amateur sport left is Boxing.

all people in the olympics are considered "professionals" they are the top of their sport in general

We want the best of the best.

That includes professionals.
