WHY ARE YOU ALL WORRIED ABOUT CARS

We will all be better off forgetting about cars. Get on your push bikes.

That would be a great idea if we overhauled just about the entire country's urban form from rural/suburban to an urban design. But, that would produce a lot (<-- bold) of waste and pollution too.  Right now it's just not feasible to expect millions of people to get to work on bike or mass transit.  The average commute is 20-40 minutes by car and increasing. An hour or more isn't atypical. By bike that's near impossible for the average citizen (<--bold). Some can do it, but not all, so cars would still be necessary.  Most places where bikes are popular (China, England, Seattle/Portland) there's still cars on the street so we can't exactly "forget" about them. And most of us can't walk into work looking like drowned rats or popsicles when the weather's bad.

In north america every thing is spread out and not very dense like in europe so it takes longer to get around.unless you live in downtown or any big city.

I live in vancouver,canada and I don't have car and I get around fine with the skytrian (similar to mono rails) and buses.Unlike in Europe this kind of bus and subway life is common I Vancouver I feel my friends look at me as I am poor since most people own cars.

How am I going to transport a family of 5 on a bike?  Sorry, not going to happen.  

My 6 year old is not going to keep up with my 12 year old.  Plus a 20 mile trip to Grandmas taking 2 hours by bike for a 6 year old.  That torture.  How mean of you.

it allows to get to and from work quickly so I can spend time with my family.  I bought a car that gets over 30mpg on my commute, that helps a little.

we are all weired about cars because the gas is going up and some cars use to mush money so most of us are buying small cars like we did

What happened to Electric Trams ?

If kids can have electric train-sets - why can't we have an efficient electric tram network ? They did during wartime UK - so why not now?

Efficient public transport and a change in employer attitudes would help. Anyone here get their pay docked if they are 3 minutes late - or just me? Using public transport is a little difficult to get it right 100% if they are not running 100% on time. Net result - people don't trust them.

We need investment in public transport - to remove cars from cities. As this grows, the boundary will move out, so if you do live within 5 miles of the centre - then you can use public transport efficiently.

Cars would not be necessary for 80% of trips.

I can see it now. 6 adult males hauling all our hunting gear for 500 miles round trip and then bringing back 6-8 deer added on top of all those bikes.

How would anyone expect to get anything built, hauled, pulled out without having vehicles to do this. If people want to ride bikes fine. I am not giving up my 5.3 liter 4 wheel drive, big honkin pickup truck since I use it plenty for all kinds of things. I have even used it to pull a tree out.Try that on a bike.
