  1. Well, other answerer's are correct that this is a throw back to wolf behavior.  But, the reasoning might be a bit off.  The idea the wolves do this to mask their scent is probably false.  Take a look at this website, they explain it pretty well, and pose some interesting ideas. http://www.anglianwolf.com/d_front_page/...  The idea presented by that site of the wolf taking the scent as something "beautiful" might be a little off.  I have read of wolves rolling in a scent in order to take it back and share it with the pack for any number of reasons.  I think that is pretty likely especially with the strong pack instinct of the animals.  So when your dog rolls in something, it just did it so it could share that remarkable scent with you!!!

  2. because cats rule and dogs drool :)

  3. Yes, dogs usually hold rituals.

  4. thank God it's just not my dog.  i have no clue why they do it, but mine does it if he can find a dead lizard or frog.  every time i see him start to do it, i tug on the leash and tell him NO.  he still does it.

PS- i don't understand your "Additional Details"....can you re-word that for me?  LMAO ;-)

  5. It is thought that dogs may choose to roll in foul-smelling things to mask their scent, just as wolves do. Wolves may roll in decomposing carcasses or the f***s of herbivores (plant eating animals) to disguise themselves. They want to cover their own odors so their prey will not be alarmed by their scent. This way, they can sneak up on their prey and have a better chance of making a kill.
