I can understand little children using them and it is a great tool for recruiting them to the game but the fact remains there is no need for adults to cheat.what next a butterfly net?The only persons who should have gloves on is the backstop.

  1. Wow... it would be impossible to catch most hits without a glove. it wouldn't be baseball! Baseball would lose most of it's fans, it's an insane idea. Not to mention the injuries, pain, stinging, difficulty to field, and so many other reasons. Standing back further when trying to catch a line drive wouldn't take off the sting in a million years, and no it would NOT be more exciting to see people struggle to make simple catches. It would get boring real fast, and no body would want to play it. It would also drag the game out for several more hours than it is already, so overall, I say a terrible idea.

I've played baseball ever since I could walk, and trust me, i wouldn't still be playing it now because my hands would be broken if this happened. I probably wouldn't even HAVE one of my hands.

And just to let you know, there is no position called the backstop, it is called the catcher...

  2. For the same reason they use a bat instead of a broomstick, it's a necessary tool of the game .  Have you ever had a screaming line drive hit at you?  It's nearly impossible to catch bare handed.

  3. Well, way back in the beginning, they didn't use gloves at all. But it became evident to the players that trying to a small projectile moving over 100 mph with their bare hands was not the greatest of ideas. Broken bones in the hand are not fun to have.

Plus the glove doesn't only protect the hands. If you have a line drive coming at your head, a glove is your best protection. Even if you don't catch the ball, it is large enough to protect your face. Without the glove, you are depending on your unprotected hands to save your face. Yeah, not likely to happen.

And while it may be true that they use a harder ball in cricket, the fact is that a cricket ball moves at a much slower speed than a baseball. My guess is that you are a cricket fan trying to insult baseball fans.

Trust me, I have first hand experience with hard hit baseballs. I have caught many a baseball that left my glove hand stinging even though I had a glove on. It's only worse without a glove.

  4. Are you crazy?

No matter HOW grown-up a guy is, it is practically impossible to catch a scorched line drive without a glove.  Maybe for grounders and pop flys but not for line drives.

The game you are describing honestly doesn't make much sense to me.  Can you imagine a line drive going at an outfielder; the outfielder misses it, it rolls to the wall, and the batter has an inside-the-parker.  Mmm... Not my idea of interesting.

Besides, without gloves there wouldn't be any web gems.  Heck, it would take hours to get three outs.

  5. well in baseball the ball travels so fast you could die like ray chapman

and it would kind of be hard to catch a fly ball and throw it back to the infield because your bones will be broken, why dont you go outside and try it and see how much it hurts

edit- i bet you dont even watch baseball to know what we are even talking about

  6. Your right, it's way too easy to play with baseball mitts for grownups.  They are tough and they can catch!  So they don't need a mitt!

  7. I would rather to see more fluent games. Plus the baseball is not all about ground ball. In fact, only very few pitcher can even make more than 50 % of ground ball retio. A lot of the catches might be line drives. You cannot barehand those balls at 80 mph no matter how grown up you are.

In addition, that is not cheating, that is common sense. Or when you grow up, you can try invent a game called "break my hand plz, I am not wearing protection".
