  1. How four rounds; one in each corner of the flag to keep it weight down preventing it from being lifted off the coffin by the wind!

  2. The 21-gun salute goes back to mans begins. At a funeral of a warrior, they would fire arrows into the air to scare away evil sprits and demons.

  3. The three expended rounds represent the three volleys fired by the firing party at the funeral.

  4. I hate to bust everyone's bubble here, but there are no expended rounds placed in the American Flag during a Military Funeral.

I was assigned to Military Burial Detachment for 1 year in San Diego and we never at any funeral placed expended rounds in the flag.

This is a story someone concocted.  To the one who mentioned four rounds one for each corner, perhaps you should attend a Military Funeral before you make such a statement.

The flag is placed over the coffin and the wind does not normally affect it, as it hangs low enough over the casket.

The only one who was right was the one mentioning the history of the Miitary Burial.

I would ask that anyone placing comments on such as this do their research before they try to show their lack of intelligence.
