  1. Water is an excellent medium for transfer of dissolved polar and ionic solids - it also allows for gaseous exchanges. Water is an ideal body to be 'born into' due to these characteristics.

  2. Water is better for supporting the structure of an organism. Life on land needs to have a method of supporting itself. So life on land needs bones (or equivalent) for support and a dessication resistant body (i.e the body can retain water without being constantly immersed in it) at the least. In water none of these are required and it is also easier to reproduce so water is capable of supporting simpler forms of life than land.

  3. all life on earth needs h20 to live. the first life started in the oceans. your body is made of 80% water. water is the cradle of life on this planet(as far as we know everwhere there might me life).

  4. Global warming. <my favorite answer to everything>

Without it and global cooling no life would exist. At one point, the earh was a complete ball of ice.

One of the interesting factors of waster is that it is a universal solvent and accommodates a wide range of acid/base levels. It can also store a great deal of energy without a large change in temperature.
