truth be said..its cos they have their own "football"..which the rest of the world calls american football..and in retaliation, they called football soccer..what the h**l is "soccer" anyway?

The correct name of the sport is Association FOOTBALL, 90% of the world know that, so why worry about what the Americans call it. Many people call their game gridiron.

idk here in canada, my club is european so we are called a football team.. but i know every other team, and club is not called football unless there club is also european

The word "soccer" is actually the evolved contraction for "Association Football", which has its roots back to the 1880s.

If you were involved with Association Football, you were called an "associater", or "assoc' er" or played "assoc' football", to differentiate yourself from the amateur ranks.

And it was these early terms that immigrants carried as they started and established in their own Association leagues in the United States.

Eventually in early part of the 20th century, and with the help of butchering Cockney, Welsh, Brogue, Scotch, and Irish dialects, "assoc' er" evolved (or de-evolved) into the contraction "'soc' er", and what we know today as "Soccer."
