The pre-season football games are bringing it lots of money. Do you think the owners would give up prime time football to let their athletes play for free in the Olympics? I think most athletic decisions are made with money on the brain. Besides, as others have said, the world is not interested in our football. Outside the U.S., football means soccer.

America is pretty much the only country that plays what we call "football".  Other countries don't care about the sport only America plays.  Other countries wouldn't practice it too, so it would be sort of unfair.

Because the US and Canada are the only countries that play American-style football.  They used to have NFL Europe, but that has been disbanded.  

Becky, they have leagues for most of the Olympic sports.  The US basketball team is all NBA players.

I believe because American football is considered pro and the Olympics are non pro.  Many countries play football, not just the Americans.

Dood....I'm an American and I can tell you that your question may take the cake as the dumbest one I have seen posted since I joined YA. I think it even beats the "what cartoon character does Alain Bernard look most like", although I did laugh at that one.

Rugby players have massive cojones. Compared to rugby players, who play while bleeding from nasty wounds, American football players are coddled. Rugby players are simply nasty. If I had a choice between meeting an American football player or a rugby player in a dark alley to take an ***-whipping, I'd pick the football player because I don't think I would have broken bones protruding through my flesh when he was finished.

Love the negative comments!  My older son played rugby the other two played football, both great sports and fun to watch.  Probably the main reason you don't see football in the Olympics is because it is a winter sport, also, if just by the stretch of the imagination it was offered in the summer Olympics, none of the players would attend because of their training in the summer.  These guys get the big bucks and would not sacrifice their time (which is in turn money) to participate in the Olympics.
