Because basic mathematics are needed for almost every future profession you could choose. Even if you study phychology!

Algebra are consider calculus subject.

Calculus subject  also included differentiation,integration and others.

And built a fundamental bridge to most of the other subject.So basic must be strong so that you will not be left behind.

You will use it when study in university in most of the courses including chemistry,mathematic (pure & statistic) ,management and sometime use in biology( also known as biochemistry in higher instituition),accounting and many more.

Furthermore you will see it in most job like manager,doctor,acountant,engineer. food researcher,chemist and even normal job like like shopkeeper.You will also use and see it in your daily life.

Hope after this you will study hard and this subject are not hard you just need to do more exercise and ask help from teacher and friend if not understand and if you really cannot cope with this subject just go for tuition.

Often when a student encounters something difficult he will ask the same question rationalizing that this is not necessary for his progress in school or in life. What is really going on is the student would like to avoid the work and often the frustration.

Nonetheless may I suggest Algebra is not a very complex course that has application only to scientists or engineers. Beyond being a worthwhile discipline, it is can be used in sales, banking, building purchasing. Without which one might not appreciate compound interest, profit margins,mortgages depreciation and the like. As a tax payer you might really want to be able to understand the rational with regard to assessments and tax rates. An informed consumer and citizen will be more effective than one who is not.

In education try not to limit yourself with your studies. Instead try to open up to new ideas and opportunities.

Maybe now you think it's boring. I felt that also at the first time. But, understanding algebra is very important during our advanced mathematics lesson. We need to know the algebra to draw the parabola or any equation.

Just take it fun. No need to be so stressed on it. It's just a lesson. Any problem you don't understand, you may still publish your questions on yahoo! answer. Everybody will try to solve your problems and give you brief explanations. Just take it easy!

Honestly you will only need algebra if you pick a profession that uses the advanced math. I graduated with with a Social Work degree and minored in psychology. I've had other jobs from truck driver to middle school special ed teacher. I'm 40 y/o and have never needed it. There are other ways to get the answer to problems in real life that might use algebra. However, knowing algebra might have made some of those problems easier to solve.

If you plan on doing anything that needs agebra or if you enjoy it do it. I am not a algebra hater I just hate waisting my time and money taking a course that I will never use.

The answers above are all good.  Another thing to keep in mind when taking courses like Algebra is that you are training your brain to do more than "solve for x". You are learning basic problem-solving skills that you can apply to other aspects of your life. You may not realize it now, but the better (and faster) your brain is at figuring out basic algebra problems, the better you will be at lots of things. For example, when you go to the grocery store (and you will go to the grocery store someday), you will quickly be able to figure out which item is a better price by dividing the cost by the weight (or however it is sold). I use Algebra all of the time when I'm doing carpentry or landscaping around the house, etc.
