  1. Because Formula 1 is a sport mostly created and run by the British. Also, most teams are based in England, even Honda and Renault. An important thing to remember is that Formula 1 is not popular in the U.S. Notice how the U.S. Grand Prix was removed from this year's calendar ?

The tennis is, on the other hand, run by the Americans, and most of the top academies (e.g. Bollittieri) are found in Florida. This is where many top tennis players train: Haas, Malisse, Sharapova, Kournikova, Jankovic, among others.

A bit of trivia: The last U.S. driver in Formula 1 was Scott Speed who was fired for his lackluster results. There were, however, two U.S. F1 world champions: Phil Hill in the early '60s and Mario Andretti in '77. The latter, by the way, is currently Danica Patrick's boss in Indy Racing.

  2. Many tennis players born in Europe and other countries actually live in the U.S. Tommy Haas is a perfect example. I watched him play a match the other day and I can barely detect his German accent. Same goes for Sharipova. Just like the answer above mine explains, F1 drivers live for the most part in Europe. Their team shops are usually in the UK, Ferrari(Italy) BMW (Switzerland), and Toyota (Germany) being the only exceptions.
