  1. if this is about buying and selling horses then i know how you feel!

they will tell you anything to get the money, they don't care about the horse. Or the person buying. Thesame goes for sellers i was heartbroken to find out the lady i sold my much loved youngster to was a dealer!

  2. I would have to agree with Sarah. The world has moved on, and not for the better. I'm not that old, but when I was a kid there weren't contracts for everything, you said something and that's exactly what you meant. You put the faults of something up front or you were likely to get knocked out when someone found out you were lying to them, but now we have cops and lawyers protecting the liars from getting what they earn.

  3. I agree with Sarah (thumbs up to you BTW Sarah) It'd not just horse people that are dishonest it's random people in general. Most of the horse folk I kow are so completely honest it's scary. They will nto hesitate to say if your horse is junk or not. They don't sugar coat anything. I myself am the same way. If I have a horse for sale I disclose every little vice and particularity of that horse and if I don't feel that the person is a good match for said horse I refuse the sale and excplain to them why. Now please tell me how is that dishonest? I realize you are not saying I'm dishonest just that horse people are but I was just giving an example. I know that there are a lot of horse folks otu there who are dishonest and the best thing to do is not associate with those people. There is a guy trying to sell a friend of my a geldig and he has lied to her in so many ways about this horse and what it does that it's sad. He's one of those that give horse people the "dishonest" repua\tation. It's taken me weeks to convince her this guy is crooked.... just found out he randomly buys and sells horses at auction. Doesn't have them vetted after the purchase... his horses stay on his farm an average of 3 days before being put up fr sale again or hauled to another auction. He drugs them before they are ridden so they appear calm and well mannered... now that is dishonest.

  4. well most horse EFA and three day eventers are stupid and don't get me started on the racing people they are the worst.

  5. about what?

  6. Because there are folks that ALLOW them to get away with it.

Don't buy a horse just based on what the seller says.

Do YOUR homework ie. Catch, groom, tack up, lead and RIDE that horse BEFORE you buy it...and GET a Pre Purchase exam done by YOUR vet...

Really - if the horse was as perfect as they say, why would they be selling it??

  7. I feel I'm quite honest in my answers, but that's just me.

It's not why are horse people dishonest, unfortuntley there's just so many people in this world who are dishonest.

I really hate it when people try to be something they're not. -_-

  8. Your question should be:

WHY? WHY? WHY? are PEOPLE so dishonest?

Its not just horse people, its random people in life in general... you cant narrow it down to just horse people.

Saying that, I consider myself a 'horse person' and I'm as honest as they come. People nowadays are becoming more and more selfish, self-centred etc. because of the pressures of life.

The world is not changing for the better.

  9. dishonest?? please explain

  10. why why why why why why are black people so mean?

  11. It's not just "horse people".  Unfortunately, there's a LOT more of the games folks play because money is tighter than it's been since the Great Depression.  Some folk have decided that they'd take advantage of folks anyway they can so that they can make a little extra money.

I had this beautiful round skirted custom made saddle with solid sterling silver conchos that I had ended up with and I took it with me to our neighborhood swapmeet in hopes of finding a buyer.  Some yahoo at the meet offered me $125.00 for the saddle saying I could keep the conchos.  I politely told him that I'd eat the saddle before he'd get it for that price.  (Sold the saddle for full price the following month.).

I've seen idiots do that (Offer ridiculous prices) in hopes that they can walk in and steal something a lot more lately than I ever have in my life.  A lot of breaking in and stealing, a lot more than I've ever heard of before (I have a friend who's house has been hit twice in the last 2 years!).

There's an old man down the road who won't hire a real handyman, to help him around his place, but hires all these derelicts with drug or other problems and ends up after he gets ripped off, spending more money than if he'd spent the cash for a reliable person to do the work.

In trying to take advantage of somebody who's down on their luck, he ends up being the one taken advantage of.  Then the old man sits there and whines "Oh poor me!"

There's LOTS of folks out there that will take advantage of another person, not just horse folk.  The best advice I can give is to ALWAYS check out who's selling the horse/tack, try it out, make sure it works and ALWAYS get a vet check!  When selling a horse you want to make sure gets a good home, check out the buyers, ask folks who know them (Get references if you can.).

  12. what?

  13. for horse people...regarding selling and buying...

they're greedy...money is their god.  They bow to their god of choice and do whatever is necessary to provide for that.  They have no conscience for the horse or the buyer or the seller.  Only the money god.

Don't even want to go into cut throat showers...those people have NO ethics for others.

I like my friends...they are honest.  Enough to tell me what they actually think.  That's why they are my friends.  When I did sell...I disclosed everything.  From vices to destructive behaviour.

One poster mentioned why we would sell a great horse.  For me personally...I had to sell a foal I made, to replace my old mare.  And she was a mirror image of my old mare.  I bawled the day I had to load her on another's trailer.  My husband's business had gotten sued and I COULD NOT keep her.  I could have scraped by, but things would have gone by the wayside...like regular worming or vaccinations or regular farrier care.  Extra food for when the horse was working.

I kept the old mare.  She gave me the best of her years...I will not repay that, by selling her for a younger version of her.  And believe me...I wanted to keep that daughter of my mare.

    *I seem to have digressed*...sorry

Money worshippers...that's what I believe about dishonest horse people.

  14. um theyre not? (Well except the overly rich snotty girls at my barn.... but besides them)

  15. The reason some horse people are dishonest are the same for other dishonest people:

    1.  They have shameful behavior to hide, they want the prestige earned by a certain standard of behavior, but don't want to do the work to earn it, or

    2.  They are greedy b******s.

    Pretty simple really.

  16. lol  great title    because most think they know everything and are so up themselves  me i just love horses and they will always have my best interests  my kids even complain that the horses come before they do.

    I stress i said MOST

  17. like someone said there its in general that there are so many dis honest people etc etc but when it comes to horses its just part of the trade in my opinion you get good ones and you get bad ones(bad ones out weighing the good ones )thats what ive found when buying horses as ive been screwed so many times especially when i follow my heart  and not my head! and the sadest thing is it boils down to money and unfortunatly for the animals and people involved they are the ones that tend to suffer!
