WHY WHY WHY do people lie.?

i just answered a Q about a womans husband / boyfriend dying and how to help her 4 / 6 year old.

she posted similar questions with all different info - which would indicate to me she was lying, then when i answer the Q asking how her daughter could be 4 a few weeks ago and now she was 6, and why she said in 1 question it was her husband, then in a nearly identical Q she said it was her boyfriend. then i got slated for my answer, then miraculously, the 2 questions were deleted as if she thought, oops, been found out.

what do people get out of this? especially saying something so horrible as a partner dying?

It's really rather sad that people do such things. I spend a lot of time on the gurl.com message boards, and we get people faking everything from miscarriages, stillbirths, pregnancies, rapes, self harm and deaths of loved ones. In some cases they'll fake several. There was one girl who first claimed to have been raped (several times as a teen, and once as a small child), then claimed to be pregnant with her rapist's baby, then, when people were starting to spot the holes in her story, claimed she'd had a miscarriage. We know now that none of this was true. One girl claimed she'd had septuplets, and then when people called her on it claimed she was infact carrying twins, but one had died and she'd made up the septuplets story to make herself feel better.

People fake for various reasons, some do it for attention, often because they have low self esteem. Some do it for amusement, trying to see how long they can keep people believing. Some have it as a sort of fantasy, and use online forums such as this to help make it more real for themselves.

We seem to get two types of fakers on gurl.com, the first sort make up obviously ridiuculus stories as a wind up, for entertainment etc... We don't mind these so much, as they're only mildly anoying and don't do any real harm. The second sort make up believable stories and spin them out for months or years, getting close to other girls on the board. These we REALLY hate, as they are really using the caring loveing girls on the boards.

You just have to be careful, sometimes though it's worth taking a risk, at worst they got a bit of a laugh out of your post (which does no real harm to you), and best they actualy need help and you've given them it.

Because shockingly, not everyone tells the truth on the internet... and sometimes not in person either.

People lie, for numerous reasons, most of them just want attention or in this case sympathy.

People who lie on the net are normally the type searching for an escape from their dull, pathetic, boring so-called life.

thats just stupid. she needs serious help!! she obvisously does it for attension! i have lost my dad recent and it does my head when people lie about death its a horrible thing!!

Because some people are tools and crave attention severely!

It's happened to me a lot too, and when you point out the fact the question is total bull c**p by reading there other questions, you get reported.

It's pretty frustrating. (Not to mention pretty embarrassing when you take the time to answer one question nicely, and it turns out it was made up!)

I've seen you in the pregnancy section, so your undoubtedly familiar with a lot of liars in that section too!

I don't know who on Earth would think something like lying about death of family would make great focus points on Yahoo! Answers.

I know, there is another bloke on here lying about his son dying, he has even done a youtube link to a film of him! When you read his questions they don't add up! Everything he says, in his questions is very convincing until you work out things! Why on earth would you lie about a child dying!

I really suggest you take YA with a grain if salt.  She probably did it out of boredom or for fun.  It happens all time here.  It's not even really worth even wasting time caring about trolls and their little games.

Its some peoples' goal in life to get a rise out of everyone. They like seeing people worried, seeing them get all worked up, some people put their hearts into their answers because it has personal relevance to them, and they just enjoy seeing that when its not even necessary because its all a lie.

Its ridiculous how creative people are on here with their lies. I think some of them could go on to write a pretty good fiction novel with the stuff they come up with!

This really irritates me too - and you can't outright accuse someone of lying if it is a serious question regarding miscarriage or something like that. Although I suspect a lot of questions on here are a load of rubbish. It's abusing the whole point of this Q&A thing, as people who seriously do need help may find they won't get any as we're too wary as a result of all the bullsh***ers!

I'v taken to checking previous questions of most people before answering, which doesn't always help, but sometimes at least gives you an idea...

Hi,

Well school is out for the summer so you get the odd bored kid who makes up a story for fun,

Or it probably just for attention.

I have come across some unbelievable stories since being a user here on YAHOO ANSWERS and it makes me feel so sick and angry when someone posts messages like this about death and how a young child is struggling with it as I am sure some of us may have experienced that or had friends who have gone through it.

It sickening.

My guess is that they don't actually have a life, family or friends. I feel sorry for those people. After you've been on Answers for a while, you can spot the trolls from a mile away!
