Question:

WHY do WOMEN often put FASHION over FUNCTION?

I've noticed that American women in particular have more fashion sense than COMMON sense.

Its rare for a man to spend money on something that performs absolutely NO function. Most things men buy can be used for something, read, eaten, driven, etc. Women will buy things that just sit around and collect dust.

This goes beyond money. I saw an interesting trend in this question as well:

You must move out of your parents house by age 18-21? Thats the most finacially idiotic thing you can do IMO. Thats the time to build wealth and save money. Not move out and live on Mac & cheese just because its "cool". I didn't move out until I could afford my own condo. Why are women.. fashion first... function second?

Why do you think women are so fashion focused compared to men?

NOTE: I know SOME men are like that too!!! Still, its more COMMON in women.

  1. I'd rather move out early and live on mac and cheese than spend another minute with my family. As for fashion, well, fashion can go to h**l.

  2. "My 22 year old boyfriend spend 25$ on a five foot long nerf gun because it was cool.

    So shut the h**l up."

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Are you sure we're not dating the same guy? I spend about 2/3 less on clothes and shoes than my boyfriend does on comic books, video games, Dungeons and Dragons books, and all his other stupid and expensive hobbies.

  3. "Its rare for a man to spend money on something that performs absolutely NO function" you obviously don't know many men!

Fashion and practibility CAN be combined. I don't just have an electric drill - I have a baby pink electric drill shaped like a gu nand the extra heads are stored like a cartdiges.  You say that women buy stuff that collects dust, but these are a macgickal and mystical thing called 'ornaments' they make your house look nice and are pleasurbale to have around. Like paint - yes you could be practible and get cheap white paint or you could paint it in pretty colours.

But this has nothing to do with your point about moving out. IF you get on well with your parents and IF you have enough space it's fine to save up for a deposit whilst living at home. But living with your partner on a single bed in a 7ft by 7ft room next to your parents isn't exactly ideal...

  4. They don't have to same rational mindset that men have. If its functional, its makes sense to me in most cases. BTW, I agree with you about the moving out of your parents house bit, its wise to build wealth first and then move out, especially during rough economic times, such as these.

  5. heyy! lol o__o

maybe because we want to look pretty, cute, beautiful?

  6. I think you've got it all wrong.  What exactly are women buying that performs NO function?  I have bought a couple suits, some workout clothes, etc. lately, but those do serve a purpose - I have to dress nice for work, and sometimes your old clothes get....well old and worn out.  My friend and I were just talking about this the other day - our shopping splurges mean spending $80 while it seems more typical for men's shopping splurges mean at least $500.

However, I probably hang out with different women than you do.  It is quite common to surround yourself with people who will confirm the ideas you already have - it's probably comforting to you to hang out with women who can't handle their money because it makes you feel superior.

Moving out at 18-21 is what is culturally acceptable here.  If that's not what you want to do, or want your children to do, who cares?  It's not a law, do whatever you want.  I think it's equally stupid for a person to live at home and save money until they get married.  When you go from living at home your entire life, directly to living with your husband/wife, you've missed out on so much life experience.  But I have friends who have done it - to each their own.

  7. I agree with Ronnie. Enough said.

  8. They don't.

Reality check.  If they were not following fashion, you would call them dykes.  Is there anything that a woman could do that would be good enough for you?

  9. Women are not creatures of logic, they are creatures of emotion. Not to say that they are inferior to men or men are always logical, but thats the way I see it!

  10. My 22 year old boyfriend spend 25$ on a five foot long nerf gun because it was cool.

    So shut the h**l up.

  11. Oh, please. What's the "function" of a $100,000 car, when a $20,000 will get you to the same place, in much the same way? And that $45,000 boat is nothing but a toy. So is the $50,000 motorcycle. Or a wii. Or the newest game system. Expensive toys, that's all they are. Or the expensive i-phone, when a $20 cell phone would meet your (real) needs. And men buy expensive clothes, too, and shoes, and Rolex's...ALL extraneous consumption for the sake of show. Period.

Obviously you don't know any men who are very well off. They ALL buy art, expensive furniture, and expensive "chotchkies," too.

And is this more hypocrisy I detect? You are always putting down "feminists" for being "flannel wearing, unkempt, unshaven"....blah, blah, blah, but then you turn around and criticize women for following fashion. Ronnie, too. Women are "illogical" for adhering to society's stringent beauty standards, but if we DON'T do it, we are "ugly lesbians." Ronnie has even posted a whole LIST of the "requirements for femininity" (ALL expensive beauty treatments, wearing fashionable clothes, and high heels) and stated that unless women do all of it, they are "undesirable, feminist dykes."

Was this "act like a hypocrite day" in your town, or something? Are there prizes?

  12. because  according to TV, magazines, movies etc,  men want pretty women, not functional women, and the societal pressures are for women to put fashion over form...
