The fact that junk food is addictive is always being featured in newspapers with headlines such as, "Fast food can be as addictive as hard drugs, "Burgers are as addictive as drugs", "Sugar and fat 'as addictive as hard drugs' researchers say".

So what do you think they put into 'addictive' foods to make you crave them or don't you care either way?

Oh and WHAT's your poison ;))?

  1. It's strictly brainwashing thru media, ~~Peace~~

  2. Addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health.

The media calling certain foods "addictive" is totally absurd IMO. The sugar in fast food isn't what makes it "addictive". The public's inability to control their eating IS. Things that are bad for us are money makers... so the advertising is bigger and better and we're constantly reminded that there are scrumptious fast food joints on every corner just waiting for us to visit them.

What they put in "addictive" foods is advertising. We buy and eat what we're told to. Beginning when we're infants smiling up at Ronald McDonald.

I personally am swayed by whatever's new at Carls Jr. ;)

  3. OMG I am a fast food and anything sugary and sweet ADDICT!!! There are too many short term benefits....I don't care about long-term....The convience of not having to cook it or clean up afterward is all too rewarding!! I don't care what people say that kind of stuff isn't going to make you fat and lazy as long as you don't over eat. I'm not fat, I work, walk all the time....but that fatty and sugary stuff is AWESOME!!!........i think i need help......

  4. I hate drugs and am never around them. However, I am a McDonald's junk food junkie, and am proud of it. If you work there you can make your own burgers...I've made two super burgers to my name. I simply have this nasty little cholesterol problem.

  5. I bet they put nicotine in it.

  6. LOTS of salt, and way too much saturated fat.  It tastes good, and you want more.

Plus, have you ever looked at their commercials objectively?  They are MASTERS of selling.  making you WANT their product.

  7. they are addictive, but people eat food on the go.but we are getting lazy for home cooking because we spend more time at work.we are i fear losing our independence of living on our own.we will lose the art of cooking mainly because our food is already cooked and we stick it in the microwave to warm.that is not good living.

  8. Like you stated, "sugar and fat" and salt.

  9. its cheap, you dont have to cook or clean up afterwards and its good but its unhealthy

  10. It's because people are lazy. Let's all eat at McDonald's and get fat and lazy. We can even go thru the drive thru so we don't have to even walk.

  11. anything that makes you feel good and is cheap and easy to get, is going to be called,"poison, addictive, etc..." it's just a vice. everybody has one. some guys smoke crack and beat their wives, i eat Whoppers. You decide which is worse.

  12. I don't think the majority of fatty foods have anything special added to purposely make them addictive, though the McCrack McMuffin IS my favorite breakfast sandwich.

I think tasty things that are unhealthy for us have become taboo, especially since the health kick of the 90's. We (humans) sort of crave the taboo. So the sugary and fattening foods have become the "drug of choice" for many many many Americans. Including, sadly, me.

My primary poison, however, is smoking. It's a disgusting habit that I try to quit every now and again. I dunno - man, I could REALLY use a McCrack McMuffin right about now.
