Question:

WHY isn't cheerleading considered a sport yet?

I mean, it's not the rah-rah stuff it used to be. These girls and guys need to tumble, lift people into the air, fly and twist in the air, bend their bodies in ways that most people never even dream of, and all to a beat, together, as one team! If curling can make it into the olympics, why can't people embrace cheerleading as a sport?

I mean, even Y!A doesn't give it a sub-category!

  1. I totally agree.  My daughter cheered all through school.  Maybe someday it will come out of the dark ages.  The people that are actively involved need to keep on preaching.........hopefully someday, someone will listen and make the changes.

  2. You can have a football game without cheerleaders but what would be the point of cheerleaders without a game? What cheers would they be leading and for who and for what purpose? It would be cheering for the sake of just cheering?

  3. Competitive cheerleading is, but when just on the cheering for teams level, its safer not to consider it a sport

  4. I know!!! It is definately a sport and it is so wierd that everyone is against it...it's not like they could do it.

Oh and acctually you can (and do) have cheerleading without a game. It's called competitive cheer. And it's a-lot better then school cheering (no offense or anything). We do more stunting and tumbling. So, ehem, thank you.

  5. It's not really a sport, that's why. Competitive cheerleading under the loosest definition might qualify (but I still disagree), but sideline cheerleading definately isn't.

If the NCAA someday considers cheerleading a sport, then it will be.

Also, Y!A doens't give it a category because there simply aren't many cheerleading questions asked.

  6. I agree competitive cheering is a sport, but cheering was created as a supportive role for teams and to bring pride to a community.  There is nothing wrong with that andin someways that's the way I wish cheerleading had stayed. I love cheering and being supportive.  Tumbling and flying isn't nessasary for getting a crowd fired up.  It can help but it isn't nessesary.  Also I don't think it with every be though of as a sport in the eyes of most people until it becomes olimpic which I don't see happening anytime soon.

  7. YEAH!!! I agree sista! I'm a cheerleader and I am NOT a froo froo girly cheerleader, I am a tumblin', flyin', twirlin', tough chick! UCA needs to revolt!

  8. Some people just do give enough credit to the sport . But  others belive  [  like me ]  it is one of the best and hardest know today .

  9. It's a sport to me! It's way more hardcore than some sports. It depends if you are talking to an open-minded educated person or an ignorant person.

  10. it is at my school!
