WHat are some good colored pencil brands? like expensive ones.?

Ive always heard that Prisma Color and Faber Castel are the best. Are there any other brands?

Well, I'm going to say Primsa Pencils are the best. :] I've used them since i started drawing, they have done me wonders.

Actually those two seem to  be the gold standard.  Derwent has been working on some wonderful improvements in their line, creating not only colorfast pencils, but a softer hand to them as well.  Lyra Rembrandt have a loyal following, but are a little more transparent than the other brands. Koh-I-Noor Progresso woodless are a good artists grade but less expensive brand (I use these for field sketching very often, in the 24 color pack.)  For a good start on learning more about colored pencil art check out the Colored Pencil society of America (CPSA) website:  http://www.cpsa.org/  I have been a member for yours.  You may even have a local chapter in your area . . . one of the best ways to get your art exhibited is to join and enter their shows!  I have had one piece accepted in their international show, but several of my works have won awards and/or have sold in other shows.  

Almost as, if not MORE important than the pencils is using the right paper.  Make sure your paper is acid-free (archival) and has a good tooth to take lots of layering.  Colored pencil is best used when many light layers are built up to get the colors and effects you seek.  Stonehenge and Fabriano soft-press watercolor paper are both good white papers. . . but Art Spectrum Colourfix and Fabriano Tiziano, Canson MeTientes, among other colored papers are also excellent choices.  I prefer a mid-value grey as the highlights and accents really pop, and it is easier to get the dark values really dark.  Experiment on different papers, for that is where you will find what works best for you.
