WHat are some good crafts or toys I could bring for my surprise bag when I babysit?

Question

When I babysit, I always bring my surprise bag with me. I put in water balloons, construction paper, coloring books, crayons, play doh, model magic, books, dvds, and first aid book. I bring more, but since I bring the same thing everytime, it's not really a "surprise" bag. PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

thats a cute idea! but dont take the same stuff everytimes, switch it up so they really are suprised.  how about popsickle sticks and glue? they can make boxes or whatever,  pipe cleaners and tissue paper to make flowers, depending on the age of the kids, maybe some beads and yarn, and  maybe empty paper towel cardboard tubes (binoculars and telescopes!!)    take a slinky too

If the kids are old enough not to swallow objects, pony beads and yarn for stringing (various colors) and pipe cleaners. Pipe cleaners can be used to make pretend eyeglasses etc, so you can play disguises or spy games, or you can make little animals or people with them, and make your own world. Your construction paper or tissue paper works great with this. Its engaging THEIR imagination that's the key, otherwise you have to work too hard. Socks can become puppets. Scarves or bandanas can be hats, pirate accessories, or whatever you can think of. I used to be entranced by tracing paper.

You are right about changing out the items to keep the novelty value! Themes like "pirates" or "Star Wars" or whatever can help too. Maybe let the children play at being the teacher? Good luck and have fun!

Tissue paper crafts, sock puppets, try www.pbskids.org and click Zoom if they still have it  for fun things. Kids like to play with "Grown up" items but turn them into fun things. Try some of your old clothes, paper towel tubes, all kids of goofy things.
