WHat does seed mean in track and field?

My son ran the 200 meter and it list two times one for the prelims and one for seed. Is that is his best time all year?

  1. mostly if your seeded it means your in the advanced race where u have to qualify for it


  2. seed is what your coach thought around what he would run  so he would placed in the right heat

    soo he doesnt get in a race with people running for example like 10 secs slower than him

  3. the seed time is the time that you qualified in to enter the meet.  ex:  if your district time for the 200m was a 22.32 then for regionals your seed time would be 22.32...It isn't necessarily your best time of the year.

  4. No that is his worst time all year, they call it seed becouse you want to bury it or in other words dispose of that time because its your worst.

  5. the seed time is the time used to place him in the meet in a position relative to how fast he is compared to the rest of the runners. the prelims time is what he actually ran in the preliminary heat of the race
