  1. A blu-ray disk is a computer program written in BD-Java.  The players 'boot' the disks (which is why it takes nearly a minute to recognize a disk).  The main goal of the program is to let you watch a high def movie.

    It's a lot more than just a higher-capacity DVD.

  2. Another conspiracy to get more of your money and keep the economy moving.

My father in law has one and a big Sony flat-panel. The picture quality is not significantly different than what I get with my old projection tv and dvd player.

Keep your money until the price comes down to $39 at Wal-Mart!

  3. Blu-ray is the next generation format, maily for movies but no doubt it will have many uses. It's gone up again HD DVD in ther format war but looks to have won. Basically it gives you an HD source about twice that of strandard DVD in terms of picture quality.

Blu-ray Disc (also known as Blu-ray or BD) is an optical disc storage media format. Its main uses are high-definition video and data storage. The disc has the same dimensions as a standard DVD or CD.

  4. It's a new type of DVD player which uses a blue laser (hence the name). The discs hold over twice as much space as a standard dual layer DVD and the quality is far higher, meaning High Definition is really only possible with Blu-Ray DVDs instead of regular DVDs.

The cheapest Blu-Ray players on the market today are probably Playstation 3, and of course you get the added advantage of the games console to boot.

  5. It uses a different laser to read information off a larger format disc. Regular DVD holds about 4.7 GB of information whereas Blu-ray holds up to 50GB of information.

  6. normal DVDs use a red laser to burn the data onto the disk, and use red lasers to read the data in the DVD player. the blu-ray DVDs use a blue laser, which is more compact and can put more, higher quality data, on the same size disk as opposed to the red laser

  7. Its a high definition DVD. Uses a blue laser to read & write information and currently costs a bomb. Only certain movies are worth getting on it and they themselves are expensive.

    Some good titles are:

    Transformers (2007)

    King Kong

Blade Runnder (really doesnt look like its 25 years old!)

Spider Man 3 (not a great movie imo but it was filmed in HD)

    The Planet Earth Series.

Theres some more but I dont want to bore you, basically avoid any film thats old and has not been remastered for HD, any with a "grainy" look (eg 300, planet terror) or any that isnt really big on visual effects. I have knocked up, it was not worth the extra cash.
