No one brand is better. If you mean in a specific class there is always one bike that shines a little but the following year it may be a totally different brand. Also just because, say the KX250F, is considered the best 250F for 2008, it may not be the best bike for everyone. If you were a novice for instance one bike would be better for you and another better for an intermediate or advanced rider. Even the pro riders and testers for the top magazines will admit that it is tough to pick a winner anymore in the shootouts since everyone is so close. The one thing I can tell you is that because of it's very different suspension setup KTM's do not do as well on a supercross or technical motocross track. They do excel in the woods and on the European style motocross tracks.

That depends entirely on what model of bike you are looking at and what use the bike is going to be put to.

For motocross I would not recommend a kawasaki in the 65cc section or the 85cc section, but if you are talking the 250cc 4 stroke section then the 2008 model is meant to be very good.  But for a beginner the 85cc and 65cc kawasaki would be fine to start on as you would not be riding it to optimium anyway.

The Yamaha 125cc 2 stroke is meant to be the best of the known brands.  

Honda always has a good reputation but then they don't have a new 125cc 2 stroke and stopped development on the ones that are around several years ago so there was nothing new on their 125cc's for several years.  But the crf250r is a good all round bike.

So it really depends upon ability and use as to what is best for a particular person.

I personally like KTM, but most of the time perference is between the rider and the bike. Honda the most durable. While the other have other better features.

Honda dirtbikes, Yamaha TTR's are sweet too, but Kawasaki quads are the most superior
