  1. A bush hog is a mower that attaches to the back of a tractor.  Technically, the device is a "rotary cutter".  Bush Hog is the most well-known manufacturer of rotary cutters, so the term bush hog gets applied to rotary cutters in general, much like we sometimes call photocopiers Xerox machines.

That is out of the way, so your job would consist of driving a tractor with a rotary cutter attached to mow whatever is on this 3 acres.  This type of equipment will handle anything from grass up to small trees, depending upon the size of the equipment (cutter and tractor).

Your price will depend upon several factors -- what are you cutting, what kind of equipment, and the condition of the ground.

Cutting grass is much easier and faster than cutting brush or even heavy weeds.

Larger tractor, larger cutter = less time.  You might also consider the weather and if the tractor has a cab with AC.

Flat, smooth ground is much easier to deal with than rough, hilly ground.  Also, there is a certain danger to cutting on hillsides and land that may have stumps, fence posts or other protrusions.  There was a guy killed here a couple of weeks ago when his mower caught on a small stump and flipped the tractor over on him.

So, you need some more information.  Ask him how long it took to mow the last time, add a bit as you will go slower your first time and multiply this by what your time is worth.  If it has not been mowed before, I would suggest you agree upon an hourly rate and go from there.

  2. To bushhog is to drive a tractor around an area that has a big mower on the back of it. ( not a little lawn tractor ).

It is usually very bouncy, it is hot work, if you have allergies - it is rough.

I assume that he has the equipment.

It is obvious that he does not want to do it himself.

I feel that $25.00 per hour that it takes is not out of order.  In my life experiences Accountants are very thrifty ( no, cheap ) as to spending their money, don't do it for nothing.

DON'T LET HIM CON YOU - IF IT WAS SO EASY HE WOULDN'T WANT YOU TO DO IT.

  3. Bush hog is one of the original companys that made rotory cutters for farm tractors --like Cresent wrench the company name became the tool name. As for price 25 bucks isnt enough that barely pays labor and set up what about equipment  and fuel 6 acres is about half a days work depending on conditions? Id add another 25 to it

  4. I would prefer a herd of hungry goats do it for me if I was in such a situation.

  5. I've always heard it called "brush hogging,"  it's done with a machine called a brush hog, it's like a mower for small trees and substantial weeds.

  6. It's to mow a field with a tractor and a mower called a "bush hog."  I assume that you'll be using his tractor and diesel, so I'd charge by the hour.  2 hours @ $25/hr.  $50.

  7. you will be cutting down bushes and such. i have no idea of what to charge him. call a landscaping business and ask them the price.
