  1. If you're not a runner, you probably won't get in the 6's.  Just do the best you can.

  2. okay, you have to remember that you must remember to run the first half of the race slower than the second. for the first half aim for about 1:45 per lap and then up it to 1:40 and then 1:30 for the final lap...very fast pace at that point... most of all remember not to get anxious...

    good luck

  3. i would bring a watch and since your not a runner and dont know what pace your wanting to go i would after my warm up do about a 100m (straightaway) or 200m (half a lap) stride and try to hit the pace your trying to go like for instance if you just want to get 6:59 i would either do the 200m stride in 52.5 or the 100m in 26.25. just do this ounce if your too fast or too slow its no big deal its just to give you a idea of what you should be running. Then do your strides and maybe if you can get a expierenced runner to pace you but if not, try to run 1:45 laps for the first 3 laps and then you will be most likely tired but just kick it in that last lap and hopefully you can get 1:44 or something faster. a 6 minute mile is not hard at all you should be able to do it just dont give up and good luck

  4. Eat a light breakfast - no milk - dry cereal and juice with a bit of fruit.  Bring an energy bar and some Gator Aid  - eat the energy bar about 30 to 45 minutes before the run and drink 1/2 half of the Gator Aid with the bar.  Then drink the second half of the Gator Aid about 5 minutes before the run.  - Relieve yourself before the run.

Since you are not a runner I'd also suggest to start the day off with some stretching first thing and then again just before the run (very important to get the muscles loose).

If during the run you start to cramp up stop and stretch for a few seconds it will pay off later.

I'd start off with a 1 minute and 30 second first 1/4 mile then follow up the next three with 1 minute and 20 seconds.

Yes you will be on a 5 1/2 minute pace but if you need to stretch or slow up a bit you have a safety margin.

I am a bit surprised that they want you to run a 6 minute mile.

But if by 6's? you mean up to 7 minutes (my pace at 25 years of age) simply add 15 seconds to each 1/4 mile listed above.

Good Luck.  And remember to wear a watch to keep track of your pace.  -  Focus and pay attention to your breathing - In through your nose and out through your mouth is best.

  5. I have to be honest with you, I'm a runner (2-3 miles 6 days a week) and I can't even run a mile in 6 minutes. I average 8 minutes and 30 seconds. But if I were to really push for one mile I bet I could cut it down. If you're not a runner, then I think you just need to keep up a quick continuous pace the whole time, and really push yourself the last lap.

  6. idk i ran in the 6's on my first try. You should try the 800. But, if you really want to to this then try to run the first two laps in 3-4 min then on the last two laps you will really have to give it that extra bust of speed in order to get in the 6's. It would help though if you had put what your time was. So we could see how close or far away you are from the mark.
