We live in the sacramento/sfbayarea. What are good 1st anniversary ideas? We have 4 days, friday thru monday, to celebrate. We were thinking about just being spontaneuous and driving up or down the cali coast to see the sights. We are looking for something to do where we can spend lots of time relaxing and just being together. The hubby has been working really hard and suggested a quiet road trip to get away from the crowds and the city life:) SO the coast was the first thing that came to mind.

ANy ideas? We've never driven there before on our own so we need some help. WHat do motels usually cost over there? Or would it be more inexpensive to camp along the way in a tent? IDeas please:D

  1. Usually I'd say Big Sur, but the fires were so recent that there are other places you can go.

Monterey Bay Area ( Wharf, Aquarium)

Capitola is artsy and has fun beach side restaurants and bars

Carmel (very romantic/Artsy with great beaches),

There's beach side camp areas in Half Moon Bay, but it's veryyyyy cold at night.

Bed and Breakfast places in Napa are good but pricey, a great one in Lodi ( which makes great wine!) is an all in one type stop that you really don't have to leave...it's a Day Spa, 4**** Restaurant, Wedding site, Garden, Winery all in one. It's called Wine and Roses.

For camping your going to want to go into the Central Valley where there's still warm nights for the next 2 months.

  2. Driving the coast while it is beautiful can be very stressful too. How about coming here to the Napa Valley. Taste some wine, get massages, do a mud bath, ride a rental bike, or go for a hike. You can rent bikes in both Yountville, and Calistoga. Calistoga even has a wine tour on a bike. You would only be about 1 & 1/2 hours away from home, but it will feel like you are in Europe. Besides, you can't get anymore romantic then what they offer in the Napa Valley.

  3. For our honeymoon we drove up the coast from southern oregon to portland and stayed at a beautiful hotel there. Then on our first anniversary we made the same drive and stayed in the same suite at the same hotel as we did on our honeymoon, we went out for a really nice dinner and enjoyed sparkling cider in our candle-lit hotel room, It was amazing remembering our honeymoon that way.

A drive up the coast is a great option, beautiful scenery and totally different then the city. Most of the time you can find inexpensive hotels, but I would take a tent and make a camping weekend out of it since you have pets!

    GOOD LUCK!
