  1. any type of force can cause acceleration of something in some direction. However if there is an equal and opposite force, the net acceleration will be zero.

    F/m=a

    Any force put on an object will cause acceleration.

    But, if the sum (sigma) of the forces is zero, the mass is at constant velocity.

  4. Any force will do the job as long no other forces are acting upon it. For example, an electric field will accelerate a proton, but if another electric field, which is equal but opposite in magnitude, is present, then the proton will move nowhere.
