He had a sprained ankle.  The coaches thought it would be best for him to continue to rest so the ankle would heal. He's needed in 1 month for the Olympics. It would be just plain foolish to continue to play on the ankle and causing further injury.

The games the US team are playing now are exhibition games and don't count for much- except for practice.

I thought the US team beat Canada by many, many points. So, LeBron's efforts weren't needed at the time.
